Social Webinars, the group of social media experts who have been providing no-nonsense style web events for professionals since December 2009, recently added a new event to their offering which focuses on some of the new location based networks and their impact on business networking as we know it. Location based network such as Foursquare, Gowalla and others have recently captured headlines as millions of people around the world are using GPS technology found on their mobile phones to alert their friends of their whereabouts at any given moment.
"We've been watching this space evolve over the past few months," said Rich Swier, a social media expert with Social Webinars. "The implications this has for businesses, whether you're a local retail establishment or a professional trying to get connected is significant. It's still early, but the public is catching on fast."
Geo-Location has long been considered a holy grail for localized search and social networking - as it helps pinpoint the general location of an individual which can truly customize ones experience with the web. Many of the location based networks such as Foursquare and Gowalla have discovered success recently by making a 'game' of checking in to locations around the globe. Many experts believe this type of social gaming has the potential to be the next big thing.
Last week, the online business network Fast Pitch!, became the first official business networking website to integrate geo-location into their offering. Fast Pitch! hopes to create an even more interactive networking experience by allowing professionals around the world the ability to bridge the gap between their online networking experience with the 'real' world. By combining a deep understanding of what each business buys and sells with the knowledge of a persons location, the ability to connect people more intelligently becomes a real possibility.
The Social Webinars team will use case studies like these (Fast Pitch!) and combine them with real world examples of how location based networks are bringing people together to do business. Additionally, the 45 minute webinar will spend time demonstrating each of the leading social gaming networks and provide a breakdown of the pros and cons of each.
